Are these charges on my whole life insurance policy typical or excessive?

06 Jun

I have a $1,000,000 whole life insurance policy. I’m wondering if the following charges are customary in the insurance industry or excessive? 1. The net cash surrender value is $24,990. 2. The expense charges are 15.5% of the premium. (Which seems high to me, but I never had life insurance before.)

Can full-time caregivers get health insurance?

06 Jun

My uncle is thinking about quitting work to take care of my grandmother (his mother) full-time. She is diabetic, blind, and unable to walk more than a few feet a couple of times a day. He’s been working full time and caring for her full time. As she gets worse, it’s getting to be too much. He can take 12 weeks of Family And Medical Leave, unpaid. But would he be covered by his employer’s health insurance during this time?

If he quits his job entirely, can he get coverage from any other resources?

She has a small annuity, some savings, and Medicare coverage, so it’s not her living costs we are worried about, but my uncle’s health care coverage.

We try to pitch in and help as much as we can. But it’s a full-time job (and then some) to be a caregiver. What can we do?

We live in Arkansas.

Life Insurance in the millions….

15 May

Isn’t it true that when you have a life insurance policy in the hundred thousands and even the millions the life insurance company sometimes doesn’t have the money to pay you all up front. And they will give you the money in the form of annuity payments? Sometimes those annuity payments will spread over months and even years. Those insurance companies do not give those people the full amount of those hundred-thousand dollar policies. Or million dollar policies?…Am I right?

They only give people who have a $10K life insurance policy or something in that range all of their money as soon as the person is deceased!?

Should I unload my Variable Life Insurance?

11 May

I have had this variable term life insurance policy for almost 10 years now and it hasn’t kept up with the projections the sales guy told me 10 years ago. This is mainly due to the high fees. About 55% of my yearly contribution is lost in “fees”. There would be a surrender charge if I were to withdraw. Should I take the hit or keep putting an annual contribution into this account? I do have life insurance through work should anything happen.
